Srinagar, 4 January 2024: Police arrested six persons across various districts in Kashmir, seizing quantities of contraband substances during a series of operations on Saturday.
In a statement, Police said that Mohammad Yaseen Bhat alias Shaka, a resident of Astan Mohalla Gundhasibhat was arrested at a checkpoint in Lawaypora-Mujgund Axis, recovering 22 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
At a checkpoint in Sazgari Pora, Zadibal police apprehended Waseem Ahmad Bafanda of Dangerpora Malbagh, Hazratbal, recovering 4 grams of heroin and ₹3,020 in cash.
In Sopore, officers intercepted Owais Bashir Shakari of Sher-Colony at Adipora crossing, seizing 5.10 grams of brown sugar-like substance.
In Tral, Awantipora, police nabbed Aqib Qadir Sofi of Gang Tral, recovering 1 kg of powdered charas-like substance during a search.
Meanwhile, at Bela Crossing in Boniyar, Baramulla, officers arrested Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh of Hundi Nowshera with 50 grams of charas.
A follow-up led to Shameema Begum of Lari Kasi Boniyar. A search of her home, conducted with a magistrate, uncovered 62 grams of charas and 1 kg of charas powder.
Each arrest has been registered under relevant sections of the law, with investigations ongoing.
Police have registered cases under relevant legal provisions at respective stations, and investigations are underway to trace broader networks involved in these illicit activities.
