Citing serious health risks, Nepal has suspended the sale and distribution of India’s Biotax 1gm, an antibiotic injection used to treat bacterial infections of the brain, lungs, ear, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, blood, bones, joints, and cells.

According to a report by The Kathmandu Post, the Department of Drug Administration tested the medicine in laboratories and found that it did not comply with production specifications, potentially leading to serious issues.

The antibiotic is manufactured by Zydus Healthcare Ltd in India.

“We have directed the manufacturing company, importers, and distributors to immediately suspend sales, import, and distribution of the said medicine until further notice,” said Pramod KC, spokesperson for the department.

“Decisions about further actions will be taken once the investigation is completed,” he added.
