Srinagar: The Maharashtra cabinet has approved the purchase of 2.5 acres of land in Kashmir’s capital, Srinagar, to construct a Maharashtra 'Bhavan'.

The budget proposal for this initiative was previously formulated and presented during the State budget session in the Maharashtra Assembly.

Notably, on 11 June last year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and urged him to provide land in Srinagar to set up 'Maharashtra Bhavan'.

In a letter he personally handed over to Sinha, Shinde expressed his admiration for the progress witnessed in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, acknowledging the region’s transformation under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and local leadership.

Shinde stated that he believes this evolution would present an ideal opportunity for greater integration between Maharashtra and Kashmir.
