Sonmarg, Jan 11: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Z-Morh Tunnel site in central Kashmir’s Sonmarg to review preparations ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on Monday, where he is set to inaugurate the tunnel.
Sharing his thoughts on the social media platform X, Abdullah wrote, "Visited Sonmarg today to review preparations for PM Narendra Modi Ji’s visit on Monday. The inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel will open Sonmarg to year-round tourism. Sonmarg will now be developed into a major ski resort. The local population will no longer need to leave in winter, and travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also be reduced."
The Z-Morh Tunnel, a crucial infrastructure project, connects the Kashmir Valley’s Sonmarg to Ladakh, which was previously cut off during heavy snowfall in winter.
