Jammu, January 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today launched the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information (RTI) Online Portal at the Civil Secretariat to enhance transparency and streamline citizen access to information.
Addressing the gathering, Abdullah hailed the initiative as a key step in empowering citizens through the RTI Act.
“The portal simplifies access to government information, promoting a faster and more transparent process while reducing costs for citizens,” he said.
The Chief Minister urged authorities to ensure widespread awareness of the portal across Jammu and Kashmir.
Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Jammu and Kashmir, the portal transitions RTI applications from manual to online submissions.
“Citizens can file requests, track their progress, and receive responses electronically, removing the need for physical visits to government offices.”
During the event, Secretary General Administration Department (GAD), M. Raju, detailed the portal's features in a presentation stating its accessibility, streamlined workflow, and user-friendly design.
The portal issues a registration number via SMS and email for tracking applications and integrates 61 government departments, 272 nodal officers, 720 First Appellate Authorities (FAAs), and 3,419 Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs).
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Cabinet Ministers Sakeena Itoo, Javed Ahmad Rana, and Javed Ahmad Dar, along with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and senior officials, attended the event.
