A helicopter convoy carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and Finance Minister Amir Abdollahian has allegedly crashed in east Azerbaijan on Sunday, according to media reports.
Rescue teams are working to get to the site. However, there's no clear information yet about what happened to the helicopter or who was on board.
Raisi was in east Azerbaijan province to inaugurate the Qiz-Qalasi Dam.
It is pertinent to mention that US sanctions on Iran pose restrictions in getting replacement parts for helicopters. They belong to Iran’s military air fleet, which predates the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
