New Delhi: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the President of India has announced a series of changes to gubernatorial and lieutenant gubernatorial positions. The changes include the appointment of new governors for Rajasthan, Telangana, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, and Manipur, along with new lieutenant governors for Puducherry and Chandigarh.
Banwarilal Purohit has tendered his resignation as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, a decision that has been accepted by the President. According to a press communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan, K. Kailashnathan has been appointed as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, effective upon assumption of charge.
The new appointments are as follows:
- Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde will serve as Governor of Rajasthan.
- Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Telangana.
- Om Prakash Mathur will take on the role of Governor of Sikkim.
- Santosh Kumar Gangwar has been named Governor of Jharkhand.
- Ramen Deka has been appointed Governor of Chhattisgarh.
- C.H. Vijayashankar will be the new Governor of Meghalaya.
Additionally, C.P. Radhakrishnan, who was previously Governor of Jharkhand with additional charge of Telangana, has been appointed Governor of Maharashtra. Gulab Chand Kataria, currently Governor of Assam, will assume the role of Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the outgoing Governor of Sikkim, has been named Governor of Assam and given additional charge of Manipur.
These appointments will take effect from the dates the officials assume their respective offices, as stated in the press release.
