Fog Disrupts Travel in Delhi, AQI Remains Poor

New Delhi, Jan 12: Dense fog disrupted flight and train operations in Delhi on Sunday morning, causing delays across various transport services.
 
According to theIndian Railways, over 25 trains were delayed including the Purushottam Superfast Express, Farakka Express, Anvt Humsafar, and Sampark Kranti Superfast Express. 
 
At Indira Gandhi International Airport, several flights were delayed as visibility remained critically low.
 
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and hail later in the day, continuing the wet spell that began earlier this week. 
 
On January 11, light rain caused temperatures to drop to 7.7 degrees Celsius.
 
Besides, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 284, categorized as 'poor,' according to the Central Pollution Control Board. 
 
Visuals from iconic locations like India Gate revealed near-zero visibility, intensifying challenges for commuters.
 
Night shelters in areas like Safdarjung provided refuge for those struggling to cope with the cold. 
 
Vegpal Singh, a shelter worker, stated, “Two meals a day, proper bedding, and blankets are being provided to those staying here. For medical emergencies, we take individuals to AIIMS, which is nearby.”
 
The ongoing cold wave and disruptions have amplified hardships, with authorities urging residents to stay cautious during adverse weather conditions.
