TRAL, 2 January 2025—Eight children in Mandoora village, located in South Kashmir's Tral hamlet, have tested positive for jaundice, with locals raising concerns over the contaminated water supply.

A health official confirmed that screening efforts are ongoing and that eight children have so far been diagnosed with the disease.

"We are conducting a door-to-door awareness campaign to educate residents on the importance of hygiene and safe water consumption," the official said.

Medical teams have been advising locals to only consume boiled water and to thoroughly wash vegetables and fruits before consumption to reduce the risk of infection, he added.

Residents have raised concerns that contaminated water could be the source of the outbreak. "We believe that the water may be contaminated, and it needs to be tested," one resident said.

Meanwhile, authorities have taken samples of the water supplied to residents, with results still pending.

Contaminated water or infections, such as hepatitis A, are common triggers for jaundice.
