New Delhi: Delhi LG V.K. Saxena has accorded sanction for the prosecution of author Arundhati Roy and retired Kashmir professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain in connection with a 2010 case accusing them of making provocative speeches that called for the separation of Kashmir from India.

The complainant, Sushil Pandit, claimed that the speeches at the conference, organized by the "Committee for Release of Political Prisoners, were “provocative and a threat to public peace and security.”

The Lieutenant Governor's permission was necessary because prosecuting under certain sections of the Indian Penal Code requires government approval before the trial. However, they haven't been granted permission for sedition charges due to the Supreme Court's directive.
