Centre appoints new chiefs for ITBP, BSF, NIA

New Delhi, Jan 14 — The Government of India has appointed senior IPS officers to lead the country’s top paramilitary and anti-terror agencies.

Shatrujeet Kapur, a 1990-batch officer of the Haryana cadre, will serve as director general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) until his superannuation on October 31, 2026.

He succeeds Praveen Kumar, 1993-batch West Bengal cadre officer, who has been appointed DG of the Border Security Force (BSF) until his retirement on September 30, 2030.

Rakesh Aggarwal, 1994-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre officer, has been confirmed as director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) until August 31, 2028. Aggarwal had been holding the additional charge of NIA chief while serving as special DG in the anti-terror agency.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved all appointments, the Personnel Ministry order said.
