JAMMU, Feb 15—Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the government is working to ensure that healthcare services reach beyond cities, stating that rural communities deserve the same access to medical care as urban populations.
Speaking at Medicon-25, a medical conference in Jammu, Abdullah said young doctors must play a pivotal role in bridging the rural-urban healthcare gap.
“I believe it is the younger doctors who can drive this change,” he told the gathering of medical professionals.
Abdullah noted that the administration, particularly Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo and Health Secretary Syed Abid Rashid Shah, is actively working on initiatives to strengthen rural healthcare. Efforts include increased funding and improved medical infrastructure to support doctors in underserved areas.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of healthcare professionals, calling their work a divine service. “Doctors save lives, bring hope to families, and stand with patients in moments of both joy and sorrow,” he said.
Abdullah stressed the need for continuous learning in medicine, urging doctors to stay updated with advancements to provide the best possible care.
