Jalandhar: Harpreet Singh, the brother of MP Amritpal Singh, has been arrested by Punjab Police for possessing drugs (ICE) at a checkpoint in Phillaur, Jalandhar. Another individual from the village of Cheema Bath was also arrested alongside him.

Following the arrest, Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa and Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal, stated that it was an attempt to sabotage the image of Amritpal Singh's family.

Meanwhile, SSP Jalandhar Ankur Gupta stated that the dope test of Harpreet Singh and his associate, Lovepreet Singh, was positive. Gupta added that the drug was purchased from Sandeep Arora of Ludhiana, who is also arrested.

Amritpal Singh is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh prison for offenses under the National Security Act. Recently, he was flown to Delhi on a four-day custody parole to take the oath as a Lok Sabha member.

He contested the Lok Sabha elections as an independent and won the Khadoor Sahib seat with a huge margin, defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira.

Amritpal Singh was arrested in Moga’s Rode village after he and his supporters, on February 23 last year, barged into the Ajnala police station, breaking barricades, brandishing swords and guns, and clashing with police personnel in an attempt to free one of his aides from custody.
