Khadoor Sahib: The jailed elected MP for Khadoor Sahib, Amritpal Singh, will be airlifted from Dibrugarh Jail to Delhi to take his oath as a Lok Sabha member on July 5. Both state and central agencies have cleared the necessary arrangements for his swearing-in.
Notably, the Punjab government had, a couple of days ago, forwarded a request to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on behalf of the Khadoor Sahib MP-elect, seeking temporary release or parole for him to take the oath as a Member of Parliament.
“Everything required for Amritpal to take the oath as MP is complete. He will take the oath on July 5 and will be brought back to Dibrugarh Jail,” a top state government official was quoted as saying by the media.
Amritpal’s lawyer, Imaan Singh Khara, stated that the plea was sent to the Punjab government through the jail superintendent under Section 15 of the NSA on June 9.
This development comes a day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) gave its consent for the jailed Kashmiri leader, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, to take his oath as a Lok Sabha member on July 25.
