AMU Withdraws Circular Asking To 'Profile' Kashmiri Students

The administration of Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Wednesday withdrew the circular to seek personal information of Jammu and Kashmir students and maintain a database.

J-K Students Association tweeted, “Authorities Withdraw Circular Of Profiling J&K Students in AMU.”

It further added: “No sort of profiling will be done in any Department of AMU and its affiliated Schools. Students should not feel worried now. Thanks, Authorities for Considering our request.”

Earlier, the administration of AMU had started ‘profiling’ the J-K students, the details of which were to be shared with the concerned Superintendent of Police (SP) in the area, as per a circular and the university officials.

The move had come days after some Kashmiri students were roughed up on the campus during the J-K students’ protest last week after a Kashmiri scholar ‘was beaten up by UP students’.

Earlier, a report of The Kashmir Walla said that the students had approached the university authorities to know the reason behind receiving such forms.

“They said this was given to us and we just did what we were asked to do. Else we don’t know,” J-K students were told.

“First, they weren’t aware. Then they said it’s a routine. Still, they will raise this issue with the higher authorities.”
