Anantnag, Oct 22: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the land identified at Janglat Mandi for the proposed Maternity and Child Hospital in Anantnag may not be adequate for the project, adding that an alternative site would be identified to ensure construction begins at the earliest.

Speaking to reporters after the Anantnag District Development Board meeting, Omar said funds for the project were available and the concerned department would work towards finding a suitable location.

“The land identified at Janglat Mandi may not be sufficient for the project. Funds are ready, and the department will work to identify a suitable location so that construction can begin at the earliest,” the Chief Minister said.

The proposed hospital is aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare services in Anantnag district by providing improved access to specialised medical facilities for women, newborns and children.

The identification of an appropriate site is now a key step towards moving the project forward, with the government expressing readiness to provide the necessary funds for its construction.
