KULGAM, OCT 8 โ Police, in a joint operation with the Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF, arrested five people and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out at Khrewan Chadder on the basis of what officials described as โcredible inputsโ, leading to the arrest of five persons and the subsequent recovery of weapons and ammunition.
According to an official, the recovered material included two pistols, three magazines, 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition and three grenades.
The arrested persons were identified as Tajamul Hussain Mir, son of Manzoor Ahmed Mir of Gufbal; Rehmat Ali Naikoo, son of Gh Hassan Naikoo of Khrewan; Tehrim Ahmed Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat of Khrewan; Manzoor Ahmed Bhat, son of Gh Hassan Bhat of Khrewan Chadder; and Kifiyat Ahmed Dar, son of Ab Rasheed Dar of Maltalhama, Kulgam.
The official said a case had been registered under relevant sections of law and that further investigation was underway.
The operation comes amid continued security operations in south Kashmir aimed at detecting and disrupting the movement and storage of illegal arms and ammunition.
