SRINAGAR, Sep 28: BJP and Congress legislators were marshalled out of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday amid a noisy protest, with BJP members objecting to references to autonomy in the statehood resolution and Congress legislators raising “vote chori” slogans.
The disruption intensified as members from both parties raised slogans and displayed banners during the proceedings, prompting Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to warn the protesting legislators against violating the discipline and decorum of the House.
“Maintain discipline or face tough action,” the Speaker warned as the sloganeering continued.
BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Arvind Gupta were among those marshalled out of the House. Congress MLAs Irfan Hafiz Lone and Iftikhar Ahmad were also marshalled out amid the continuing uproar.
The BJP legislators protested references to autonomy and the pre-1953 position in the statehood resolution adopted by the House, questioning their inclusion in the resolution.
Congress members, meanwhile, countered the BJP protest by raising slogans of “vote chori”, referring to the controversy surrounding allegations related to the Election Commission of India, and displayed banners inside the Assembly.
The protests disrupted the proceedings as members from both sides continued their exchanges, forcing the Speaker to intervene and order the marshaling out of the protesting legislators.
The House witnessed repeated sloganeering as the two sides pressed their respective objections during the proceedings.
