KUPWARA, Sep 28: Casualties are feared after a passenger Sumo skidded off the road and plunged into the Kishanganga River in the Seemari area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday, officials said.
The vehicle was travelling through the area when its driver apparently lost control, causing it to veer off the road and fall into the river, an official said.
“The exact number of people travelling in the vehicle and their condition could not be immediately ascertained,” the official said.
Soon after the incident, police and rescue teams reached the spot and launched a search and rescue operation to trace the occupants of the vehicle.
The official said the operation was underway and further details regarding the number of passengers and possible casualties were awaited.
Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident, while rescue efforts continue.
