Srinagar, September 25: Higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Thursday, with Peer Ki Gali along the Mughal Road and Gulmarg’s Afarwat peak witnessing a spell of snow as rainfall was recorded in several parts of the region.
The snowfall was reported from the higher reaches of Peer Ki Gali in the Pir Panjal range, while Afarwat peak in Gulmarg also received fresh snow, marking a noticeable shift in weather conditions after a prolonged dry spell.
Despite the change, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days.
According to the latest subdivision-wise forecast, no weather warning has been issued for September 25 and 26. However, thunderstorm, lightning and squall activity may occur at isolated places on September 27 and 28.
No weather warning has been issued for September 29 and 30, the forecast said.
In Srinagar, the weather office has forecast mainly clear skies on September 25, 26 and 27. Weather conditions are expected to turn partly cloudy thereafter, with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms on September 28 and 29.
Jammu city is also likely to experience mainly clear weather until September 27, followed by partly cloudy conditions and a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms on September 28 and 29.
The fresh snowfall in the higher reaches is expected to contribute to a further fall in temperatures at elevated locations as the transition towards colder weather gathers pace.
With temperatures expected to decline further in the higher reaches, snowfall is also likely to become more frequent as the season progresses.
