Udhampur, Sept 17: Two militants were killed in a joint intelligence-based operation in the Brattal area of Udhampur district on Thursday, the Army said.
The operation, code-named Operation Sohan, was launched during the intervening night of September 16 and 17 following confirmed inputs about the presence of militants in the Brattal area, according to the Army’s White Knight Corps.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said troops from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF conducted a targeted operation despite challenging weather and terrain conditions.
“Despite hostile weather, difficult terrain and poor visibility, troops of White Knight Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a targeted counter-terrorism operation, resulting in the neutralisation of the duo,” it said.
The Army said arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
It added that the operation remained underway, with search and surveillance activities continuing in the area to rule out any remaining threat. The identities of the two slain militants are being ascertained.
The operation followed an incident in the Majalta area on Wednesday evening, when security forces opened fire after noticing suspected movement. Searches were subsequently launched and security presence in the area was intensified.
