Srinagar, Sept 17: Fresh snowfall covered the high-altitude Kabul Gali in north Kashmir’s Gurez Valley on Thursday, while widespread rain lashed Kashmir and several parts of the Jammu division, officials said.
Kabul Gali, located at an altitude of around 4,167 metres, received light to moderate snowfall, leaving the high-altitude pass and surrounding areas covered in a fresh layer of snow.
The pass connects Tulail Valley in Gurez with the Mushkoh Valley towards the Drass sector of Ladakh.
Officials said the snowfall did not cause any major disruption, though travellers heading towards higher reaches were advised to exercise caution.
Rainfall was recorded across several parts of Kashmir during the past 24 hours. Qazigund received 13.4 mm of rain, followed by Gulmarg with 13.2 mm and Pahalgam with 13 mm, while Srinagar recorded 8.2 mm.
Heavy rainfall was also reported from parts of the Jammu division, with Udhampur recording 117.8 mm, Jammu 112.9 mm and Katra 45.2 mm during the same period.
The weather activity brought a noticeable chill to the region, particularly in the higher reaches, with temperatures dropping amid the rain and snowfall.
