New Delhi, September 6: Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court has been appointed the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the President of India has approved.
Justice Bhati will become the 39th Chief Justice of the High Court, which exercises jurisdiction over the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
His appointment marks a significant change at the helm of the High Court and brings an experienced judge with a long legal career in Rajasthan to the top judicial post.
Born on September 21, 1970, Justice Bhati completed his B.A., LL.B. and LL.M. in Mercantile Law. He later earned a Ph.D. for his research on “Promotion & Seniority in Public Employment, its Changing Dimensions and Role of Supreme Court.”
He enrolled as an advocate in 1992 and practised extensively before the Rajasthan High Court, handling a wide range of legal matters.
Before his elevation to the Bench, Justice Bhati served as the Additional Advocate General of Rajasthan. He was also associated with the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association and served as its president.
Justice Bhati was elevated as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court on November 16, 2016, beginning his judicial career on the Bench.
He will now take charge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and oversee its judicial and administrative functioning as Chief Justice.
His appointment comes as the High Court continues to administer justice across the two Union Territories, with its jurisdiction extending to both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
