Kulgam, Sep 2: Kulgam Police, in coordination with the Excise Department, on Wednesday destroyed wild cannabis plants growing along a roadside at Makhanpora as part of a drive against the cultivation and spread of narcotic substances.

The joint team identified and removed the cannabis plants from roadside areas within the jurisdiction of Police Station Kulgam, police said.

The plants were systematically destroyed to prevent their further growth and possible misuse for the production of narcotic substances, according to officials.

Police said the operation was part of its ongoing efforts to curb the availability and spread of drugs and prevent areas from becoming potential sources of narcotic substances.

Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cultivation, possession, sale or distribution of narcotic substances to law-enforcement agencies.

Police said cooperation from the public was important in efforts to tackle drug abuse and protect young people from the harmful effects of narcotics.
