UDHAMPUR, August 18: Security forces have launched search operations across parts of Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua districts following reports of suspected persons moving in the areas, officials said on Tuesday.
The searches were intensified after two unidentified men, allegedly wearing shawls, reportedly knocked on the door of a house in Talot village of Udhampur late Monday night and asked for food.
According to officials, the two men approached the residence of Prakash Chand and repeatedly knocked on the door. The occupants, however, did not respond for several minutes.
The suspected individuals subsequently left the area and moved towards the Khuban side, following which the residents alerted security forces.
“Individuals wearing shawls asked for food,” officials said, describing the information that prompted the security response.
Acting on the report, joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reached Talot village and launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area.
Searches were also carried out in the Sadini forests of Reasi district, while security forces conducted operations in several villages close to the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua, officials said.
The operations are being conducted at multiple locations where recent reports of suspected movement have been received.
Officials said the searches were continuing and security forces were maintaining heightened vigilance in the affected areas. Further details regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspected individuals were awaited.
