Civilian Shot Dead in Srinagar A Week After Additional Troop Deployment

Srinagar: Unknown gunmen shot dead a 27-year-old civilian identified as Mohammad Ibrahim in Bohri Kadal area of downtown Srinagar, officials said on Monday. 

 
A resident of Ashtengu Ghat area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district; the deceased was a salesman in a grocery shop run by a Kashmiri Pandit who had returned to Kashmir in 2019. 
 
Medical Superintendent SMHS (Shri Maharaja Hari Singh) Hospital Dr Kanwaljeet Singh said the civilian was brought to hospital with two bullet injuries in his abdomen and succumbed while being operated. 
 
Despite heightened security presence across Srinagar and an additional Deployment of 3000 troops only in Kashmir Capital Srinagar – the city had Two killings within 24 hours – day before a cop was shot dead in Batamaloo area of Srinagar. 
 
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said they took cognisance of the crime at 8:10 PM. 
 
He was shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment where he succumbed,” he said. 
 
He said that the police have registered a case in this regard.
 
"Area has been cordoned off and search operation has been launched in the area,” he added.
