Anantnag: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was after being fatally hit by a speeding sumo vehicle in the Bumzoo area of Mattan in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
Officials identified the deceased as SPO Mohammad Maqbool Ganie, son of Abdul Aziz Ganie and a resident of Shangus.
“He was hit by a speeding sumo vehicle bearing registration number JK012 1976, while he was dispensing his duty at a Naka (checkpoint) in Bumzoo,” an official said.
The SPO sustained critical injuries in the incident and succumbed on the way to hospital, he said.
The accused driver has been identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sidiq Bhat and a resident of Hapatnard, Aishmuqam.
A police official said that they have arrested the accused driver and a case stands registered in this regard for further investigations.
