Srinagar, 03 November 2024: At least 11 civilians were injured after suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a CRPF bunker near a crowded flea market in the Polo View area of Srinagar city on Sunday.
The attack that occurred close to the weekly flea market, popularly known as the Sunday market, which is frequented by thousands, came a day after forces killed a top Pakistani commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Khanyar locality of Srinagar.
A senior police officer said the grenade was hurled at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker near the TRC. “However, the grenade missed the intended target and landed on the roadside, injuring 11 people,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged the security grid of J&K to do everything possible to end the spurt in attacks.
"The last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks and encounters in parts of the valley. Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians,” he said in a post on X.
Additionally, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din visited the hospital on Sunday to meet the civilians injured in the grenade blast.
