Wayanad, Kerala: Nearly 100 people have been killed and several others are still trapped as massive landslides hit Kerala’s Wayanad district on Tuesday with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging people to avoid unnecessary travel to the district.
“Please avoid unnecessary travel to Wayanad,” the Kerala Chief Minister said, asserting that rescue workers must be able to reach the area smoothly.
“An entire area has been wiped out… There are 128 people receiving treatment for injuries. Many who went to sleep last night have been swept away,” the Kerala Chief Minister said.
“Many people are still trapped under the debris.”
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal said on Tuesday morning, “This is the hour of togetherness; we have to work together so that as many lives as possible are saved. We are planning to go to Wayanad. Yes, both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are planning to go.”
